The State of Tank Artifacts in New World

Nov-11-2023 PST

When we assess the current tank artifacts in New World, it becomes evident that many of them fall short of expectations:

1, Odo: It offers a 20% bonus damage against stunned targets, but the Flail, unfortunately, lacks a stun mechanic. The 5% base heal on a 5-second cooldown hardly makes a substantial difference for tanks with over 20,000 HP.

2, Void Darkplate: Despite its name, it provides only a 20% bonus to armor, which is restricted to the chestpiece. This amounts to a mere 158 additional physical and elemental armor. It's an underwhelming choice.

3, The Wall: The "Keenly Fortified" perk leaves much to be desired. It could benefit from a significant buff to bring it on par with "Keenly Empowered." Alternatively, a perk swap to something like increased Health would be more appealing.

4, Lost Stopwatch: While extended stuns are beneficial, the threat it generates is notably lacking. A boost to 300% threat generation would make it more compelling.

5, Ghoul Gloves: The ability to transfer one debuff to a foe below 50% HP can be inconsistent in its effectiveness.

6, Freedom: With the Flail already granting immunity to all CC in clumps, the Freedom artifact loses its utility.

On the flip side, there are tank artifacts that do have their merits:

1, Freya's Francisca: This artifact allows you to maintain 100% uptime on taunt with just one ability, providing excellent control.

2, Bloodrinker: It proves invaluable if you can contribute damage as a tank, particularly when combined with the VG. In some situations, you may not even require a healer to tank challenging bosses on M2/3.

3, Stopwatch: It excels in encounters where crowd control can be applied. A 4-second stun with the War Hammer is sufficient for follow-up stuns. It also offers an uncomplicated way for an off-tank to taunt without the need for Carnelians.

4, The Wall: This artifact boasts a perk that reduces all elemental damage by 15%, boosts stamina by 33%, and comes with a sturdy shield. Its utility becomes more apparent when considering the fortification and Sword and Shield perks.

5, Michael: With a 5% cooldown reduction on a block and the ability to remove one debuff, it offers better control over abilities, provided the cooldown on that perk remains absent.

For dodge tanks, the Tumbler Feetwraps are an enticing choice. While they sacrifice 200 armor due to their light nature, they offer a 25% fortification and a minor heal upon a successful dodge. So spending New World Gold coins to buy and strengthen it I think is necessary, hurry up.
