I'm a relatively new player, or at least, I never had the patience or time to fully level up in retail before. I've casually played from Cataclysm onward, logging in once every expansion for about two weeks. However, being in my 40s and having enjoyed Warcraft III and the Arthas story, I decided to give WOTLK a try on EU servers. Unfortunately, it's proving to be a challenging experience.

I prefer leveling up with quests, which naturally leads me to dungeons. For example, as a Holy Priest, when I start RFC, I usually type something like "new player here, please be patient," only to be instantly kicked out as a healer in a very basic dungeon.

I'm wondering how someone aiming for an immersive experience should approach this game. If I ever make it to the late game, I want to enjoy it with all the cutscenes and story, but I'm not sure if I'll get there with my current experiences. Are RP servers better for that? I'm uncertain if I should continue.

I don't think starting any MMO will ever be as easy as it used to be. People and games have changed a lot, and it's no longer widely accepted to take one's time reading quest texts and studying the map with randoms involved. Even in a brand new MMO, you'll likely encounter mostly experienced players who want to skip cutscenes and optimize their gameplay immediately.

I recently came back to the game and started playing with my sister, who is fairly new to the game and the story. Mentioning dungeons now stresses her out, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy where she's afraid of criticism about her DPS or making a wrong turn after a wipe. It saddens me to see her struggle to experience the game the way I learned to love it.

However, we also encounter the complete opposite, with people going out of their way to help when they learn that she is new. There really are all kinds of people playing this game. As someone else mentioned, looking for a friendly guild with a helpful attitude might be a good idea. I can't say for certain if RP servers would be better, but I have my suspicions that they might not be.

As a final tip for those who enjoy following the story, consider checking out the addon "voiceover," which adds voices to all the quest dialogues.
